Terms and Conditions

About these terms
These terms apply when you buy or use the Budget Planner at budget.itsharrietjsmith.co.uk ("the planner"). By creating an account, you agree to them, so please read them first.
The planner is provided by me, Harriet Smith, a sole trader based in the UK. You can contact me at [email protected].
How I handle your personal information is explained in my Privacy Policy.
Buying and access
- What you get: a one-off purchase through my Beacons shop gives one person access to the planner, for as long as I offer it (see "Availability" below).
- Your access code: after you buy, you'll get a link and an access code by email. You use the code once, when you create your account.
- Your licence: you can use the planner for your own personal or household budgeting. You can't share your code or account, resell or give away access, or copy the planner.
- Checking purchases: I check accounts against my sales records. If an account doesn't match a purchase, or a code has been shared, I may remove access (see "Removing access" below). If you bought with a different email from the one you signed up with, just email me and I'll sort it out.
- Prices: prices are shown in pounds and include any VAT that applies. Launch or bundle prices may change later. That won't affect what you've already paid.
Your right to cancel and refunds
When you buy digital content online, UK law normally gives you 14 days to change your mind. Because you get instant access, that right ends once you start using it.
- Before you create your account: you can cancel within 14 days of buying for a full refund. Email me with your order details.
- Once you've created your account: you've started using the planner, so the 14-day cancellation right no longer applies. At checkout, you agree to immediate access and acknowledge that you'll lose the right to cancel once you start.
- If something's wrong: this doesn't affect your legal rights if the planner is faulty or not as described (see "Your legal rights" below).
Refunds go back to the payment method you used.
Your account and fair use
- You must be 18 or over and give a real email address you can access.
- Keep your password private, and tell me straight away if you think someone else has used your account.
- You're responsible for what you enter. The planner works out totals, cashflow, overdraft and pot figures from your entries, so they're only as accurate as the information you put in.
- Please don't try to access other people's accounts, interfere with the planner, overload it, or copy, scrape or rebuild it.
Not financial or tax advice
The planner is for planning and organising your own money. It isn't financial, debt, investment or tax advice, and I'm not a regulated financial adviser.
- Your figures: cashflow, overdraft and "spare per day" figures are estimates based on what you enter. They can't account for things like bank fees, pending payments or payments that go out on a different day. Always check your actual balance with your bank.
If you're struggling with debt, free, confidential help is available from organisations such as MoneyHelper, StepChange and Citizens Advice.
Availability, updates and removing access
Availability: I work hard to keep the planner running, but I can't promise it'll never be unavailable, for example during maintenance or if one of my providers has a problem.
Updates: I may improve or change features over time. I won't make changes that take away the main things you paid for.
Removing access: I may pause or remove access if:
- there's no matching purchase, or a payment is reversed or charged back
- an access code or account has been shared
- the planner is being misused, or these terms are seriously broken
Where it's fair to, I'll email you first so you can explain or put things right. Removing access doesn't delete your data straight away (see the Privacy Policy).
Closing your account: email me and I'll delete your account and data. Ask if you'd like a copy of your data first.
If I ever stop offering the planner: I'll give you at least 60 days' notice by email and send you a copy of your data if you ask. If I stop offering it within 12 months of your purchase, I'll give you a partial refund for the unused time.
Your legal rights and my liability
Your legal rights: under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, digital content must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality. If it isn't, you're entitled to a repair or replacement, or, if I can't fix it, some or all of your money back. Nothing in these terms affects these rights. Citizens Advice can explain them in full.
What I'm responsible for: I'm responsible for losses you suffer that are a foreseeable result of me breaking these terms or not using reasonable care and skill.
What I'm not responsible for:
- decisions you make, or losses that come from them, based on figures in the planner (it's a planning aid, not advice)
- mistakes in the information you enter
- losses that weren't foreseeable, or business losses, since the planner is for personal use
I don't exclude or limit liability where the law doesn't allow it, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
Apart from those cases, my total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for the planner.
Ownership, changes, law and contact
Who owns what: the planner, its design, wording and code belong to me. What you enter in it belongs to you.
Changes to these terms: I may update these terms, for example when I add features or the law changes. I'll update the date at the top. If a change materially affects you, I'll email you before it takes effect. If you don't agree, you can close your account.
Law and disputes: these terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your local courts. If something goes wrong, please email me first. Most things can be sorted out quickly.
